WordPress as Web application Development Framework

A few trends that I have noticed recently with regard to WordPress development.

• WordPress hosting providers offering services to niches – the latest one released is CampusPress for the hosting of Education based sites. While there are many offerings for high trafficked  WordPress sites – the trend is now to specific verticals.
• Lots of blog posts on the postitives of using WordPress as a Web application framework – some of the functionality that quickly springs to mind are things like user and media management.

With the latter specifically – this is one of the great advantages of a modern Content Management System. Stuff that you had to build for yourself a decade ago – are now part of the standard install.
